ABOUT OSCX

Since its establishment, OSC Cross has evolved into something more than just another downwear line. Created for the discerning individual who appreciates fine tailoring and a Canadian-made focus, our company is the result of three keystones: an appreciation for good design, decades of expertise in the industry, and of course, a commitment to our valued patrons. Like our sister brand Outdoor Survival Canada, OSC Cross benefits from a history of close to 30 years of Canadian-made downwear experience. Needless to say, this is a sturdy testament to reliability. In fact, we are so confident in our workmanship that we guarantee it.

Combine this with classic modern cuts that come out of our design studio, and we are proud to bring you goods that are built to last.

Notre Histoire

DOWN FILL

GOOSE & DUCK DOWN BLEND
LOFT POWER: 650

All OSC Cross lightweight jackets and parkas are filled with a high-level proprietary blend of goose and duck down in accordance with Canadian standards. The down goes through a sanitizing process of being treated with an antibacterial agent to ensure the highest quality insulation is used in your garment.

The fill power is a measure of the loft, or ‘fluff’ of the jacket, which is related to its insulating ability per weight. A higher fill power also enables the jacket to be compressed more easily. Thus a higher fill power means that the jacket will be lighter warmer than one of a lower fill power rating for the same weight.

The measure of the quality of a garment is not restricted to Loft Power, but by other factors such as fabrication and construction of the garment.

About Down

What is down?

Down is a high-performance, natural by-product from duck and geese, and is well-known for its favourable warmth-to-weight insulation. Unlike feathers, down is the soft layer of fine filament clusters between the stiffer, exterior feathers of water fowl. The down fill of this garment is comprised of a proprietary blend of white goose and duck down, with a fill power of up to 650. As a down-filled product, this garment does not contain large feathers and not only adheres to, but exceeds the Canadian Standards for down-fill products.

Where does down come from?

The down used in this garment originates from processing factories across Europe and Asia. These factories adhere to high North American sterilization standards, down purity and factory sanitation. Down clusters are specially washed with intensive cleaning processes, rinsed, and then dried. In order to separate the various grades of down and feathers, the down and feathers are blown into bins. The higher lofting down drifts towards to the top of the bins, which is then captured and used in this fine product.

Traceability and Ethics

When it comes to the use of animal products, we understand that sanitation and animal welfare are important issues. The origins of our down (which is a by-product) have gone through regular and rigorous audits for down purity, factory cleanliness, and the internal traceability of down. This traceability ensures that our original sources – from large-scale abattoirs to independent farmhouses –  have adhered to standards that protect both the welfare of the animal and assure the consumer of a quality product. Sources that procure down from live-plucking or foie-gras sourced origins are forbidden.

Fabrics

All fabrics are custom-dyed and made for OSC Cross by skilled textile experts. Fabrics have been tested for durability for various outdoor conditions. All outer shell fabrics are water resistant, windproof, and down-proof to keep insulation contained.

Entrax 800® Outer Shell Fabric: Proprietary durable nylon fabrication fused with a membrane for waterproof, windproof, and breathability properties.

C45 Legacy Fabric: An cotton/nylon blended fabric with wind and water-resistant properties. This fabric is sealed with a waxed finish.

Sporting Shield Fabric: A soft and supple outershell fabric that is both water and wind resistant. This is featured on our lightweight jackets and as contrast fabric on some parkas.

Georgian Twill Fabric: Heavier weatherproof poly-cotton blend fabric applied for durability details.
